- Værn om vores natur og klima

Med Skovhusets nye gruppeudstilling, Naturen, det billige skidt sætter vi fokus på klimakrise og det stadig mere påtrængende behov for at passe på vores natur og jordklode. I udstillingen deltager Bigert & Bergström, Jesper Dalgaard, Olafur Eliasson, Ilkka Halso og Andreas Schulenburg.

Klimaforandringer, global opvarmning og naturødelæggelser er emner, vi næsten hver dag hører om eller i stigende grad oplever konsekvenserne af. I kølvandet er opmærksomheden i samfundet rettet mod nødvendigheden af bæredygtighed og af at øge beskyttelsen af miljøet. Det er også et emne, hvor mange kunstnere tidligt har været pionerer, og hvor vi mere end nogensinde har brug for at lade os engagere og tage aktiv handling.

I Naturen, det billige skidt vises værker af fem kunstnere, som undersøger konsekvenserne af klimaforandringerne og den måde, vi mennesker behandler naturen på. Bigert & Bergström griber i deres værker på udstillingen fat i ekstreme vejrforhold, og hvordan mennesker altid har været optaget af at kontrollere vejret og dets af og til ødelæggende indvirkning. I Olafur Eliassons fotografier fremgår det tydeligt, hvordan de konkrete klimaforandringer har påvirket landskabet, og hvordan imponerende fænomener i naturen nu er på vej til at forsvinde. Menneskets adfærd og påvirkning af naturen er også konkret og mærkbar i skulpturerne af Jesper Dalgaard og Andreas Schulenburg, som med en dystopisk stemning og sort humor italesætter de negative konsekvenser af den industrialiserede produktion og vores forbrugskultur. Den dystopiske stemning er også gennemgående i Ilkka Halsos fotografier, hvor fantasifulde bygninger og konstruktioner indrammer naturen, så den beskyttes for menneskets handlinger, men som også peger på den udsathed der ligger i, at naturen bruges som underholdning.

Det var forfatteren og journalisten Otto Gelsted, som i 1934 i sin digtsamling Under Uvejret fandt på udtrykket ”Naturen, det billige skidt”, som en ironisk måde at fremhæve naturens værdi på. Siden er det blevet brugt flittigt til at beskrive menneskets behandling af naturen. Ligesom vendingen peger værkerne i udstillingen på menneskets komplekse forhold til naturen, på fascinationen, behovet for at være den nær, samt en forvaltning af den, som er slået ud af kurs. Men måske mest af alt fremhæver de nødvendigheden af at handle og forestille sig muligheder.

Naturen, det billige skidt (Safeguarding Our Nature and Climate)

With Skovhuset's new group exhibition, Naturen, det billige skidt, we focus on the climate crisis and the increasingly urgent need to take care of our nature and the planet. The exhibition features Bigert & Bergström, Jesper Dalgaard, Olafur Eliasson, Ilkka Halso and Andreas Schulenburg.

Climate change, global warming and the destruction of nature are topics we hear about or increasingly experience the consequences of almost every day. In the wake of this, society is focussing attention on the need for sustainability and increasing environmental protection. It is an issue where many artists have been early pioneers and where we need to engage and take action more than ever.

Naturen, det billige skidt features works by five artists who explore the consequences of climate change and the way we humans treat nature. Bigert & Bergström's works in the exhibition address extreme weather conditions and how humans have always been preoccupied with controlling the weather and its sometimes devastating effects. In Olafur Eliasson's photographs, it is clear to see how concrete climate change has affected the landscape and how impressive phenomena in nature are now disappearing. Human behaviour and impact on nature is also tangible and noticeable in the sculptures by Jesper Dalgaard and Andreas Schulenburg, which articulate the negative consequences of industrialised production and our consumer culture with a dystopian atmosphere and black humour. The dystopian mood also runs through Ilkka Halso's photographs, where imaginative buildings and constructions frame nature to protect it from human actions, but which also point to the vulnerability inherent in using nature as entertainment.

It was the author and journalist Otto Gelsted who, in 1934, in his poetry collection Under the Storm, coined the phrase Naturen, det billige skidt (Nature, the cheap dirt) as an ironic way of emphasising the value of nature. Since then, it has been used extensively in a Danish context to describe man's treatment of nature. Like the phrase, the works in the exhibition point to man's complex relationship with nature, the fascination, the need to be close to it, and a management of it that has gone off course. But perhaps most of all, they emphasise the need to act and imagine possibilities.
